About Me

Welcome, my name is Victoria. I’m a trained Orton-Gillingham tutor with a background in child development, and I specialize in helping children in K-6th grade who face reading challenges, including dyslexia.

Using a structured, evidence-based approach, I provide individualized instruction tailored to your child’s specific needs. My goal is not just to strengthen reading and writing skills, but also to help students develop greater confidence and a love of learning.

Every child deserves to feel supported and capable. I help students build strong literacy skills and the confidence to match. I believe that as reading skills blossom, so does self-esteem. My goal is to create an environment where learning feels safe, joyful, and empowering.

Understanding Dyslexia

Dyslexia is a learning difference that affects how the brain processes letters and sounds, making reading more difficult and less automatic.

Children with dyslexia simply learn differently. It’s a common condition that often runs in families, and many talented, successful people have it. A dyslexia diagnosis doesn’t define your child’s abilities or future, it just means they need a different approach to learning. With the right support, students with dyslexia can become strong, confident readers.

Children with Dyslexia May:

  • Struggle to sound out words
  • Mix up letters like b and d
  • Find spelling especially difficult
  • Forget how to read a word they just saw
  • Avoid reading or feel frustrated

What is the Orton-Gillingham Approach?

The Orton-Gillingham(OG) approach is a proven, structured method that helps struggling readers by teaching language step by step.

Principles of OG

  1. Diagnostic and Prescriptive
  2. Individualized
  3. Language-Based and Alphabetic/Phonetic
  4. Simultaneous Multisensory
  5. Direct and Explicit
  6. Structured, Sequential, and Cumulative, but Flexible
  7. Synthetic and Analytic
  8. Cognitive
  9. Emotionally Sound

Why This Approach Works

OG is effective because it teaches students how language works in a structured, step-by-step way. It builds a strong foundation that leads to meaningful progress and lasting confidence. Children with dyslexia thrive with consistent routines, targeted repetition, and lessons designed to match how their brains learn best. This method equips them with the tools they need to decode words and become independent, successful readers.
